What If Someone I Know Is Gay?
Answers to Questions about What it Means to be Gay and Lesbian
Simon Pulse, 2007

From Eric Marcus:

In 1993, when HarperCollins first published my book Is It a Choice?, which is a question and answer book about homosexuality, most of the people who asked me questions on this subject were in their late teens or older. Now I get questions from kids as young as ten and eleven. And many of these kids, as well as the many teens who write to me, are struggling to make sense or their feelings of sexual attraction or they’re struggling to understand their gay friends and family members.

That’s why I’ve written What If Someone I Know is Gay?, which offers young people the no nonsense, age-appropriate answers they’re looking for. And for this new edition, which is a complete rewrite of the original 2000 edition (published by Price Stern Sloan), I’ve added a new chapter just for parents, who often find themselves struggling for the right thing to say or do when faced with a child they think might be gay or when a child simply has challenging questions that need to be answered.

It's been very gratifying to receive e-mails from young people who have found this book in their middle school libraries or whose parents have bought it for them. It gives me a sense of hope that at least some young people today are growing up with a clear understanding of a subject that for too long has been shrouded in myth and misinformation.

And if you’re looking for resources right now (like a group for gay teens and straight allies in your area), click on “Finding Help” in the home page menu bar for an extensive list of organizations and web sites of interest to teens and their parents.
